About Tofino

By Vincent Thomas-Couture

Tofino received the nickname of Canada's “Tough City” for its long, rainy and tempest winter. At first, Tofino was a small fishing village until the construction of the ending of the Trans-Canadian-Highway. Then, the tourists began to flock in the city.

Tofino is noted for its awesome winter rains and its “perma-mist” in this season. The region is “on record as one of the wettest places in the North America”. It also has the record of the soggiest location in North America.

What to do?

If you are interested by activities according to those temperatures, you can do many things. First, you should go to Clayoquot Island, one of the beautiful savage islands around Tofino and a world UNESCO biosphere reserve. You should also go to the Rain forest trail, a very good activity. You can also take a boat tour and go to the Hot-Spring Cove. This splendid hot spring is located in Maquinna Provincial Park in the remote northern end of Clayoquot Sound. It is still enjoyable in its natural state.

The principal tourist attractions are based on natural landscape like the centenary sequoia forest where you can do wilderness hiking and wild life watching. For example, there are whale watching tours and bears watching tours. You can also go deep sea fishing, kayaking, beach combing, surfing or scuba diving. There are plenty of activities to do for the ones who love outdoor sports!

With the years, Tofino had a little change for the accommodations of tourism. The advantages of this accommodation are that you have your choice for your holidays: luxury resorts, bed and breakfast, private cottage rentals or hotel rooms. That makes Tofino a very beautiful small town where you will find so many things to do.
